Red Center
Some colors are perfectly happy playing a supporting role. Red isn't usually one of them.
There's something wonderfully unapologetic about red.
It doesn't ask permission to be noticed. It simply arrives and expects everything else to adjust.
In Red Center, I explored what happens when one concentrated area of color becomes the dominant force within a geometric composition.
Around it, hard-edged shapes, intersecting divisions, and contrasting fields create a structure that both supports and challenges the red.
What interests me is that the surrounding shapes don't become unimportant just because one color commands attention.
In fact, they become essential.
Without those quieter relationships, the red wouldn't have nearly the same impact.
It's a lesson I keep encountering in my paintings: a focal point is only as strong as the composition surrounding it.
Red Center may have a leading character.
But it's still an ensemble performance.
