Golden, Colorado, was founded in 1859 during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, making it one of the oldest towns in the state. Named for the gold-rich Clear Creek that runs through the city, Golden quickly became a hub for mining, trade, and industry. It served as the territorial capital of Colorado from 1862 to 1867 before Denver claimed the role.

Golden’s rich history includes the establishment of the Colorado School of Mines in 1874, a globally recognized institution for engineering and applied sciences.
